Lifting + Thinning

Lifting is the removal of the lower branches from a tree in order to provide clearance for buildings, vehicles, pedestrians, and enhance views.

Thinning is the selective removal of branches to increase light penetration and air movement through the crown. Thinning opens the foliage of a tree, reduces weight on heavy limbs, and helps retain the tree’s natural shape.

Height Reduction

Reduction reduces the size of a tree. This is often recommended for:

• for power line clearance to fit regulations
• when the tree is affected by disease
• is restricting sunlight
• incorrect tree for the environment or landscape or
• Incorrect pruning causing unaesthetic or hazardous growth

Compared to topping, reduction helps maintain the form and structural integrity of the tree.
For reducing height or the overall size of your tree for any of the above reasons, our Arborists can advise you on shaping your tree for the best growth performance and aesthetics.

Hedge Trimming

New hedges should be pruned from an early stage to establish a shape and prevent leggy, unhealthy growth.

The amount you prune back will depend on the type of hedge.

Once the hedge is established, regular maintenance will ensure it keeps healthy and neat.

Land Clearance and Vegetation Removal

If you are building a new home or preparing for a new sub-division, land clearing or vegetation removal to prepare for new projects can provide you with the advantage of a blank canvas.

Vegetation removal also includes identification and clearance of noxious weeds.

Tree Removal

Tree removal is a last resort.
There are however circumstances when it is necessary. Our experienced arborists can help decide whether or not a tree should be removed. Professionally trained arborists have the skills and equipment to safely and efficiently remove trees and consult with you on the best options available.

Removal is recommended when a tree
• is dead, dying, or considered irreparably hazardous
• is causing an obstruction or is crowding and causing harm to other trees and the situation is impossible to correct through pruning
• is to be replaced by a more suitable specimen
• should be removed to allow for construction
We specialise in large tree removal including Crane Dismantle.

Power Line Clearance

We work to Orion and Council regulations to keep trees safe and clear from overhead lines.

Under The Tree Regulations (Electricity Hazards from Trees 2003) tree owners are responsible for the clearance of their trees from power lines. Trimming trees close to power lines can be very hazardous.
Our Arborists are experienced in line clearance with the appropriate machinery and training.
We offer free quotes for all our work and can remove the danger aspect for you for any line clearance job at your property.

Stump Grinding

After a tree has been removed, stump grinding removes the entire stump from the ground making that land available again for new planting or lawn.
After a tree has been removed, stump grinding the remaining trunk and roots is the most cost effective way as opposed to removing with manual labour.

Emergency Call Out + Storm Damage

We provide a 24 hour 7 days a week emergency call out service. CALL 0800 4 SEASONS.

If a tree or branches have fallen on a power line:

Stay away from the tree! Call Orion power company immediately.

If a large branch or tree are on the ground near a power line that has come down:

Do not go near the tree! Call Orion Power Company immediately.

Tree owners can follow these steps to help ensure a safe and effective response to tree-related storm damage:

  • Assess the situation
  • Take personal safety precautions to ensure nobody goes near power lines or a damaged tree
  • Resist the urge to do it yourself
  • Call us to discuss the situation and provide a certified arborist to safely deal with your storm damage

Strong winds and heavy rains can join forces to soften soil and cause the overturning of trees. Lightning strikes generate heath that vaporises water within the tree, which causes wood to split and bark to explode. During a storm, the failure of part or all of one mature tree may cause significant damage to your personal property or power lines.

The signs of damage or danger can be difficult to see- if in doubt call us

Crown Clean

This is the removal of dead, dying, diseased, weakly attached and low vigor branches from the crown of the tree.

The crown is the foliage bearing section of the tree formed by its branches and does not include any clear stem or trunk.
Dead wood is often dry and brittle and cannot bend in the wind like a living tree or branch. A dead branch and treetop that is already broken off (“hanger” or “widow maker”) can be dangerous that are unpredictable and can break and fall at any time.
